Fressnapf group builds logistics facility in the port of Duisburg

The Fressnapf group, Europe’s market leader in the pet supplies industry, continues to expand its presence around the company’s head office in Krefeld: Together with an internationally leading real estate group, the company intends to build a new logistics center in logport I in Duisburg-Rheinhausen in 2016. At this location, Fressnapf plans to set up an import warehouse especially for goods from Asia and North America. Duisburg was selected due to duisport’s optimal connections and its role as the leading logistics hub in Central Europe.

The future logistics location forms another building block in Fressnapf’s continued growth strategy: “The new import warehouse offers the ideal conditions for our ambitious goals,” says Alfred Glander, Managing Director Merchandise, Logistics and Cross-Chanel Marketing, “which will especially benefit the movement of goods for our growth in the private label area.”

Fressnapf intends to create up to 150 workplaces at the new logistics location in the future – at first with two-shift and subsequently three-shift operations. Subject to official approvals, the construction of the logistics center will begin before the end of this year.

Fressnapf was established in 1990 in Toeller in Erkelenz (North-Rhine Westphalia) by the owner Torsten Toeller. Today, the group has approximately 1,400 specialised stores in 11 European countries (mainly under the name MAXI ZOO) and more than 10,000 employees. At present, the group has an annual turnover of approximately EUR 1.8 billion.
