Bosch Secure Truck Parking, the digital booking platform for truck parking spaces, is further expanding its network. Following the successful pilot project at the logistics site Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt, it is currently being integrated into the Europe-wide network of Bosch Secure Truck Parking on a premanent basis. In addition, Rewe will examine a possible connection for more logistics sites.
“We are pleased to have found a strong partner for our platform in Rewe,” says Dr. Jan-Philipp Weers, Head of Bosch Secure Truck Parking. “It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved. Without further surface sealing, urgently needed parking space will be created for the logistics industry and Rewe will receive additional revenue from the extended parking space usage.”
According to the Association Vereinigung Deutscher Autohöfe e.V. (VEDA), there is a lack of over 30,000 truck parking spaces along the German motorways. According to a recent EU study, there are 400,000 safe truck parking spaces in Europe. Often, truckers have to drive to several parking lots or park unsecured next to the highway. The result: accidents happen, cargo is stolen and drivers are tired because they do not get a good night’s sleep.
The Bosch Secure Truck Parking platform provides digital information on on truck stops, company premises and forwarding areas. Since the parking spaces are recorded in real time, they can be reserved by forwarding companies and truck drivers in advance or at short notice via an online portal or via an app. This allows precise planning of routes and rest periods. In addition, the platform provides information on the security and comfort features of the location. Parking fees can be paid cashless.
At the Rewe logistics site in Neu-Isenburg, the cooperation was tested in a three-month test phase – with great success: on the one hand, it was ensured that the flexible marketing of free parking spaces could be smoothly integrated into the operational processes. And on the other hand, the retailer was surprised by the constant high demand for paying parking spaces. “We are very satisfied with the cooperation and find the Bosch principle so convincing that we are currently exploring cooperation for further logistics locations,” says Sebastian Edel from Rewe.
“Like car sharing, logistics providers help each other and share parking spaces,” explains Jan-Philipp Weers. “That makes sense,buit also contributes to sustainability, because less search traffic means less environmentally harming CO² emissions.”
That this approach is meaningful and promising, is also confirmed from the public side: Since the end of 2017, parking spaces of Bosch Secure Truck Parking are state-subsidised by the German Office for Goods Transport. German freight forwarders can reimburse parking fees for subsidised parking to 80 per cent.
