Raben Group acquires Scheffler Logistics

The Raben Group acquires Heinrich Scheffler GmbH & Co. KG to particularly expand its transport services for Scandinavia in future. The contract to acquire the renowned forwarding company was signed on June 16. It is subject to the approval by the cartel office.

The 70 employees of the family-run transport company, whose name will remain on the market for now, will change to Raben Group. Scheffler Logistics with headquarters in Langenhagen (Lower Saxony) generated a turnover of EUR 18 million in 2015.

“The acquisition of Scheffler Logistics represents a valuable addition to our transport offer. Especially the excellent reputation of the company for transports to and from Scandinavia, strengthens our product portfolio throughout Europe,” explains Ewald Raben, CEO of Raben Group. The experience and expertise of the new colleagues – also in the automotive industry – will enable the company to fulfill customer requirements even better in the future.

Scheffler Logistics, which, in addition to the automotive sector, is also active for the chemical sector and the mechanical engineering industry, organizes more than 100 groupage departures to Scandinavia and other European countries per week. The acquisition fits the growth strategy of Raben Group in Germany, which has grown from 420 to currently around 2,500 employees in 26 offices throughout Germany since 2005, due to organic growth and acquisitions.

Sven Petzold, former owner of Scheffler Logistics, therefore sees his company in good hands: “For the continuous development of our company, further investments are needed, which shall made by Raben in the future. Likewise, the decision to sell the company to the Raben Group was affected by the fact that it is a family-run business as well. This should favor a rapid and successful integration.”

The origins of today’s Scheffler Logistics reach back to its establishment more than 140 years ago. From 1964 on, the forwarding company was owned by the family Petzold. 75 percent of the currently organized transports are of international nature, half of which going towards Scandinavia including Finland.

With over 85 years of experience, the Raben Group is one of the leading logistics companies in the markets of Central and Eastern Europe. It offers comprehensive logistics solutions in road, sea and air freight transportation as well as global supply chain management concepts. In 2015, the Group generated sales of over EUR 1 billion. The Raben Group operates more than 1 million sqm of storage space in many European countries. Its fleet comprises 6,600 vehicles.
