Noerpel shows commitment for refugees

Noerpel offers apprenticeships for young refugees. The logistics group is supporting an initiative of IHK Ulm with the objective of offering training professions to skilled refugees. On June 2, 2016 the logistics company invited 15 immigrants from six countries (Afghanistan, Eritrea, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia and Syria) to an information event. Noerpel is the first company in the region, which presents training opportunities in the course of the IHK’s initiative.

As a leading logistics provider in southern Germany, Noerpel trains school graduates in different jobs every year. Currently 124 young people make an apprenticeship with the Noerpel group – among them are two refugees from Afghanistan and Gambia (Africa) since 2013. “As a family enterprise, we accept the social responsibility for the great task of integration,” says Hartmut Noerpel-Schneider, Senior Partner of the Noerpel group and a board member of the Refugee Council in Ulm for many years.

At the Noerpel headquarters in Ulm, 15 immigrants were informed about the training as a specialist for warehouse logistics (duration: 3 years) and as a warehouse clerk (duration: 2 years). The interested persons have knowledge of German at A2 to B1 level. This year and the next year the company is expected to recruit ten apprentices for warehouse logistics.

Established in 1881, Noerpel is today one of the leading logistics service providers in southern Germany, and an regional leader for export in Europe. The fifth generation-family company headquartered in Ulm has offices in northern and southern Germany, the Rhineland and the Czech Republic. Apart from that, Noerpel also counts among the leading logistics companies in Vorarlberg and in northern Switzerland. The customers are mostly companies from the consumer goods and food industries as well as suppliers. With nearly 1,700 employees at 13 locations Noerpel generated sales of over EUR 300 million in the year 2015. Heidenheimer Kentner Kraftwagen-Spedition GmbH & Co. KG and Ascherl-Noerpel GmbH Co. KG are companies of the group.
