Pharma Logistik Austria GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Richter Pharma AG, officially opened its new Wels-West logistics centre on 10 May. The site covers a total of around 17,400 m², including 8,100 m² for fully air-conditioned storage and 1,300 m² of offices. With 10,000 pallet spaces, 1,000 of which are for cool storage, such as vaccines, the storage capacity in Wels is now quadrupled.

The quality assurance system meets all Austrian and European requirements and was successfully certified by the Ministry at the beginning of the year. The Ministry of Internal Affairs classifies the enterprise as a “critical infrastructure” to ensure security of supply. A business continuity plan shall guarantee contingency planning.

In addition, the company attaches great importance to sustainability: The new cold storage is cooled with the refrigerant carbon dioxide (CO2) in a climate-friendly way, and the in-house photovoltaic system produces 200 kWp (kilowatt-peak) of electricity. This means: If the sun shines, the system covers about half of the total electricity requirement.

The new logistics centre also has a positive effect on Wels as a business location. “In the medium term, we can create up to 50 additional jobs at the new location,” says Mag. Roland Huemer, Chief Executive Officer of Richter Pharma AG.

According to its own statements, Pharma Logistik Austria ensures the best possible supply of pharmacies, hospitals and wholesalers with pharmaceuticals and highly sensitive products such as cytostatics, narcotic drugs, emergency and cold chain products. Roland Huemer: “In addition to emergency deliveries around the clock, we also provide our customers with medicines on Saturdays. That’s a benefit that distinguishes us among others in the supply chain.”

In addition to services for the pharmaceutical industry, the company offers more and more additional services. The future should bring even more of the best possible care. Under the Salfero brand, Pharma Logistik Austria offers its industrial partners solutions that help patients deal with illness and therapy. “These services are primarily aimed at chronically ill patients and promote their adherence to therapy. The goal is to achieve a better quality of life,” explains Roland Huemer.
