Almost the entire transport volume (99 per cent or 383.1 million tonnes) was accounted for freight vehicles registered in Austria in 2017.

With regard to the individual transport sectors, it showed that inland traffic was carried out primarily by Austrian vehicles (93.1 per cent and 360.3 million tonnes respectively), while the share of cross-border reception provided by domestic vehicles (2.98 per cent or 10.7 million tonnes) and shipping (3.02 per cent and 10.9 million tonnes, respectively) was significantly lower.

In terms of domestic transport services, the proportion of Austrian freight vehicles rose by 1.7 per cent in 2017 to 18.4 billion tonne-kilometres. At 5.8 per cent (-468 million tkm), transport services abroad recorded a year-on-year decline.
