In 2009, the Japanese power tool manufacturer Makita was looking for a competent international logistics provider to organise the company’s overseas shipments from Asia including further distribution in Austria. cargo-partner was chosen because of its extensive network and expertise in overseas and intermodal transportation.

Today cargo-partner organises for Makita sea freight and air freight imports from Asia with redistribution in Europe, including daily pick-up, overnight delivery and comprehensive import and export customs clearance. In addition to transport and customs services, Makita uses cargo-partner’s flexible warehousing solutions to respond to seasonal fluctuations in demand as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

In the cargo-partner transshipment centre near Vienna, Makita benefits from scalable storage options and an “emergency warehouse” for peak times. The favourable location of the cargo-partner iLogistics Center near Vienna Airport – and right next to Makita’s Austrian headquarters – is an additional plus point.

Florian Zamecnik, Team Leader Purchase, Logistics & Facility at Makita, explains the cooperation as follows: “We don’t need an off-the-shelf logistics solution. In cargo-partner we have found a flexible partner who understands our business and offers proactive solutions. So we can rely on personal advice and fast, effective problem solving.”

Two EDI interfaces were set up between the IT systems of the two companies to enable fast processing of transport orders and customs clearance. The customs EDI enters Makita’s customs data into the cargo-partner system and automatically forwards it to the responsible authorities. After approval by a customs expert, the data is then automatically transmitted to the Federal Ministry of Finance.

For a Makita customer, cargo-partner has even set up a function for automatic notification of important events: as soon as a shipment status changes to “pickup” or “delivered”, for example, the company is immediately notified by e-mail. This ensures full transparency.
