Kuehne + Nagel to launch its largest investment outside Europe

On 4 January, Kuehne + Nagel unveiled its Singapore Logistics Hub, a 50,000 sqm built-to-suit facility located in the west of Singapore. The facility is part of Kuehne + Nagel’s regional expansion plan to support its fast growing supply chain clientele operating within Singapore and the ASEAN countries.

Klaus-Michael Kuehne, majority shareholder and Honorary Chairman of Kuehne + Nagel International AG, said, “Singapore is located at the heart of major shipping lanes in Asia. We have identified its pivotal role to regional trade 46 years ago and it remains today an important part of  our growth strategy in Asia Pacific. The Singapore Logistics Hub is Kuehne + Nagel’s largest investment outside Europe and represents our long-term commitment to the market. The new facility provides the necessary end-to-end, value-added supply chain capabilities to support our customers through Asia’s complex trade and logistics landscape.”

Located near pharma and healthcare hubs, major manufacturers and ports, the Singapore Logistics Hub provides 46,000 sqm of warehousing space. Aside from the standard freight and warehousing service offerings, the new facility will serve as a regional centre of excellence for high-tech, industrial, pharmaceutical and healthcare customers, offering supply chain optimisation and value-chain transformation solutions.

More than 40 per cent of the new logistics hub has been furnished with advanced chilled storage, redressing and postponement facilities to support the growing base of pharmaceutical and healthcare companies operating in Asia. In combination with Kuehne + Nagel’s award winning logistics solution, KN PharmaChain, the Singapore Logistics Hub completes Kuehne + Nagel’s regional offering to provide a one-stop end-to-end supply chain solution to the industry. In line with its global strategy to drive logistics efficiency through supply chain innovation, the Singapore Logistics Hub will include Kuehne + Nagel’s first centre of excellence for logistics innovation in the region.

Dr. Detlef Trefzger, Chief Executive Officer of the Kuehne + Nagel Group: “The centre of excellence for logistics innovation is an integral element of Kuehne + Nagel’s strategy to foster continual and operations-related logistics innovation through stronger collaboration with customers, partners and employees. Global companies are realising that efficient supply chain management can be the differentiator in today’s dynamic business landscape. The centre of excellence will allow us to work alongside our customers and partners in developing technologies and business strategies that are pragmatic and enhance supply chain efficiencies.”

In a real life environment a collaborative platform between customers, industry partners, independent and Kuehne + Nagel experts implements and tests applied operations innovations. In this context supply chain efficiencies and working capital improvements are in the focus of the collaborative optimisation activities.
