Since October 1st, 2019, all of the more than 70 GLS locations in Germany are receiving 100 percent green electricity. This is achieved by the parcel logistics company through the procurement of sustainable electricity and relies entirely on the use of renewable energies instead of fossil fuels.
“With GLS ‘KlimaProtect’, we are sending out a clear signal for environmental protection”, says Martin Seidenberg, CEO of GLS Germany, “The switch to 100 percent green electricity is another component of our KlimaProtect program and supports us in our goal of compensating and avoiding emissions.”
Since October, GLS has been transporting all parcels in Germany completely climate-neutral with KlimaProtect. Generated emissions are compensated by certified afforestation projects. At the same time, GLS is investing in further measures to reduce and avoid emissions.
Since 2008, GLS has bundled all measures for resource conservation and emission reduction in its ThinkGreen initiative. These include ecological measures for depot renewals and rebuilds, constant optimization of mileage and capacity utilization as well as sustainable city logistics solutions. This is how GLS Germany first used an e-bike in Konstanz in 2016.
Since then, other cities and vehicle types have been added, for example eVans and eScooter. There are currently over 20 projects in Germany with around 100 electric vehicles.
