Fleetboard makes Brantner Transport even more efficient

Brantner Transport GmbH, headquartered in Krems an der Donau (Lower Austria) specializes in just-in-time and system traffic in cargo and part load traffic. All towing units in the Mercedes-Benz only fleet transport goods for well-known companies in Europe. The core area is Austria and Germany.

A special feature are system transports for coping with long-haul routes. This is challenging for the drivers, but also for the nearly 100 trucks. In continuous operation, the mileage of the Mercedes-Benz Actros can reach over one million kilometers within four years.

The requirements for dispatching are also high: vehicle occupations and the loading and unloading of many trucks have to be coordinated on a just-in-time basis seven days a week. In this time-critical environment, a telematics system that promises 100 per cent availability is important. Therefore, in 2018 a complete conversion to the Fleetboard system of Mercedes-Benz took place.

Fleetboard significantly reduces the workload for the dispatcher and fleet manager. “The legally required, monthly readout of the vehicles had to be carried out by the driver administrators directly on the vehicle,” explains Alexander Ulrich, dispatch and fleet manager at Brantner Transport. “During systemised traffic, where the vehicles are practically never in the headquarter, this means that someone is traveling several days a month to intercept the vehicles and read the speedometer.”

In addition to the Fleetboard driver card and mass storage downloads, Brantner Transport uses the time tracking modules to overview drivers’ driving and resting times, disposition to support typical transport tasks, mapping for GPS-controlled trip recording and messaging. Alexander Ulrich: “With the messaging service we can directly write short messages to the driver. These appear on the guide, which is installed in the vehicle.”

Brantner Transport sees great potential in the application analysis in the medium term. “Currently Fleetboard is not in use long enough in most vehicles to get a clean picture. But in the long term, we would use this module to make the vehicles even more economical and to combine this with a bonus system,” emphasizes Alexander Ulrich.
