The transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss has invested EUR 4 million into its location in Memmingen, in the Bavarian district of Swabia, and added over 5,000 m2 of warehouse area. The reason were the increased customer requirements for warehouse capacity and logistics services.
“For a while, we have met the increased volume of orders by renting additional external warehouses. But since we aim to keep our work processes as efficient and lightweight as possible for the benefit of our customers, we ultimately decided to expand our location,” says Anton Hagg, Branch Manager at Gebrüder Weiss Memmingen.
During the six-month building phase, the existing handling facility was increased by a total of 3,000 m². Additionally, two new warehouses were constructed, each with an area of 1,200 m². These are completely insulated and can be equipped with (high) storage racks if necessary.
“Now we have enough space again to meet various customer needs – whether involving standard high rack items or bulky goods. Time-wasting transport to various external warehouses is no longer necessary, and all 170 employees work in one place again,” explains Anton Hagg.
As part of the expansion and new build, additional car parking spaces and social areas were also built for the staff. There is also an innovation in terms of security: the whole area is now monitored by around 300 cameras, and all warehouses are access-protected using a chip system.
In addition to traditional warehousing, the service portfolio also includes integrated logistics solutions including procurement, picking, delivery and assembly, as well as national and international part and full loads or special courier and express services. Since the middle of the year, the logistics company has also been increasingly offering project shipments to Russia and Central Asia.
