DB Schenker’s newbuilding stimulates Lower Austria as a business location

In the presence of Landeshauptmann Dr. Erwin Pröll and Major Mag. Matthias Stadler the new DB Schenker logistics centre in St. Pölten was inaugurated on October 13. The 34,000 m² location triples the area operated by the integrated logistics provider in Lower Austria. In total EUR 11 million have been invested into the new logistics centre, which meets state-of-the-art requirements to energy efficiency and environmental protection.
Landeshauptmann Dr. Erwin Pröll emphasised on the significance of the new logistics centre with respect to Lower Austria as a business location: “In Lower-Austria 2015 was appointed ‘year of work’, because the labour market and upgrading the business location is our key concern. All the more, I am pleased that DB Schenker opened the new building in Lower Austria this year, thus creating a capacity of up to 100 new jobs. ”
“With this new site, we can quickly meet the individual requirements of our customers in the best possible way, but also ensure a high level of environmental protection and CO2 optimisation,” said Kurt Leidinger, CEO of DB Schenker in Austria and Southeast Europe, at the opening ceremony of the new building.
In addition to current safety standards and modern IT solutions DB Schenker put a focus on environmental protection and CO2 optimization. So the centre is designed virtually carbon neutral and LED illuminated depending on daylight. To be able to transport the goods fast and environmentally friendly, the new site even has its own railway siding on the adjacent shunting station.
Apart from 1,200 m² office space, the new site includes a 5,000 m² logistics hall with high rack and block storage and 2,000 m² cross docking- and handling area. “We are delighted that the construction of the new logistics centre has been implemented so quickly and successfully and we were able to open the location according to schedule,” said Christian RANKL, Branch Manager of DB Schenker in St. Pölten.
