Interior and exterior mirrors on the vehicle help drivers and truck drivers to keep track of everything from the driver’s seat. Nevertheless, truck accidents occur again and again due to the blind spot. The AUVA (Austrian Social Insurance for Occupational Risks) State Office Vienna, the KFV (Board of Trustees for Traffic Safety) and DB Schenker have tackled this problem.

As part of a Safety Day on October 2 at the DB Schenker terminal, the campaign kicked off with the presentation of a first fixed mirror settings, where truck drivers can now optimally adjust their mirrors. “With the mirror adjustment carpet around the truck, which consists of different colored tarpaulins, the truck driverss can see at a glance whether their mirror adjustment matches the tarpaulins or not,” explained DI Christian Kräutler from the KFV.

“We plan to extend this campaign to our terminals throughout Austria”, says Mag. Alexander Winter, CEO of Schenker & Co AG Austria. Furthermore, a cooperation with Asfinag is planned in order to make the mirror carpets available at Austria’s service areas.

As part of the campaign, truck drivers will be provided with free warning labels with the inscription “behind us it is safer”, which they can attach to the back of their vehicle. This should also alert non-motorized road users directly at the hazard point to the risks of the blind spot.
