The Vienna airport has gained a flight link to North America. After more than 20 years, Air Canada clebrates its comeback to Austria.
On April 30, 2019, the Canadian airline has resumed its Toronto-Vienna-Toronto flight connection. A Boeing 787-9 is operated on the daily link. Five weekly flights will be offered in the winter season.
Depending on how many passengers are on the aircraft, Air Canada’s Boeing 787 can offer 10 to 12 tonnes of bellyhold capacity. Marketing of the cargo capacity in Austria lies in the hands of M.L. Vesely Transportagentur GmbH at the Vienna airport.
The initial flight was greeted with the traditional water salute in Vienna. The flight connection was officially opened by Heidi Alberta Hulan, Ambassador of Canada in Austria, Mark Galardo, Vice President Network Planning at Air Canada and Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.
“Flights linking Vienna and North America have grown enormously in popularity. With Air Canada we welcome an ideal long-haul partner for this region, which will continue to grow in 2019,” Julian Jäger commented on the new flight connection.
Mark Galardo, Vice President Network Planning at Air Canada: “As well as being a cultural and artistic capital, the city is also an important European business centre. This makes Vienna a very significant addition to our schedule. One sign of this new route’s importance to us is that we are dedicating to it our state-of-the-art Boeing Dreamliner, with three cabins of service.“
Air Canada provides scheduled passenger service directly to 63 airports in Canada, 56 in the United States and 100 in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America. Air Canada is a founding member of Star Alliance, the world’s most comprehensive air transportation network serving 1,317 airports in 193 countries.
Also the Austrian Airlines initial flight to Montreal has arrived according to schedule on April 30. With the summer flight schedule the city at Mount Royal will be approached by daily flights; during the winter flight schedule Austrian will operate the route five times per week, using a Boeing 767.
