The private Taiwanese airline Eva Air celebrated the arrival of the new Boeing 787-9 at the Vienna Airport on 10 May. After a press conference and a performance by the Vienna Boys’ Choir, the Eva Air Austria team of General Manager Edward Ho invited them to take a plane tour of the Dreamliner.
“Vienna was the first long-haul destination on the Eva Air network in 1991 and is now the first long-haul destination to be served by the Boeing 787-9. We are very proud of that,” said Edward Ho.
The launch of the Dreamliner marks a milestone in the history of the private Taiwanese airline. By 2022, two more Boeing 787-9s and 20 Boeing 787-10s will be added to the fleet.
Not only the new aircraft gave reason to celebrate; Edward Ho: “2019 is a special year for our station here in Vienna: in addition to the introduction of the Dreamliner, we welcomed the two-millionth passenger on the Vienna route at the beginning of April and celebrate the 30th anniversary of Eva Air together with all stations of our network.”
Eva Air flies daily from Vienna to Taipei, every Monday, Thursday and Saturday nonstop and Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday via Bangkok. The cargo capacity per flight is 12 to 18 tonnes.
Dr. Yung-Fa Chang, chairman of the Evergreen Group, founded an international airline in March 1989. The flight operation with two aircraft started on 1 July 1991 with the first flight to Bangkok. On November 11, 1991, the first long-haul flight was operated to Vienna. Meanwhile, Eva Air serves more than 60 destinations in its network with almost 80 aircraft.
