The BMW Group has again charged DB Cargo with the transport of vehicle parts from the works in Leipzig and Regensburg via the Transsiberian route to the BMW Brilliance Automotive site in Shenyang, northern China.
The new multi-year agreement covers two weekly rail services and a volume of 2,500 containers per year. The car parts and components are needed in Shenyang for the production of vehicles for the Chinese automobile market.
“We are pleased to renew this agreement and thereby continuing our longstanding and successful cooperation with BMW in our China business,” says Andreas Busemann, Chief Sales Officer, DB Cargo. “We have continuously developed our system and cut the transport time by rail from formerly 23 to less than 17 days. So this allows even to offer door-to-door times of less than 20 days.” This is almost twice as fast as sea freight.
Since 2010, DB Cargo has already transported more than 15,000 containers to China for BMW. The company as a lead logistics provider offers services all along the transport chain – for example, an IT platform gives access to departure or arrival times of containers at any time.
The Transsiberian route leads 11,000 kilometers through Poland, Belarus and Russia to China. In addition to BMW more customers from the automotive sector use this train that also serves destinations in northeastern and eastern China, such as Changchun, Beijing and Shanghai.
