The international forwarding and transport company Drautrans (Fürnitz/Carinthia) was founded in 1994. Named after the Drau, the largest river in Carinthia, which flows into the Danube and then flows into the Black Sea, the company sees itself as a pioneer of the flow of goods throughout Europe, Russia and the Middle East.

Over the last 20 years, the Drautrans team has focused on organizing truck and rail transport from Austria to Italy and from Italy to Russia and Central Asia. In addition to clients from the construction, wood and steel industries, the company serves numerous Austrian and Italian logistics service providers.

Of great relevance as an empty container depot for well-known shipping companies is the “Terminal Interporto Drautrans” with its 1,500 m² of covered area and 7,000 m² of open space. There, 500-700 containers are constantly available, “which we comprehensively service and on request supplement with container operating services on the NAPA port relations”, as Managing Director Josef Müller explains in an interview with Österreichische Verkehrszeitung.

Against this background, the company hopes for the imminent realization of the project “Customs Corridor Trieste – CCT Villach”. The parties involved are responsible for reducing the downtime of import times in the port of Trieste by up to three days.

In the solution developed for this purpose, the containers from Asia or from the countries bordering the Mediterranean will be loaded onto the waiting block trains after their arrival in the North-East Italian seaport and forwarded to the Villach Süd freight terminal in Fürnitz. The customs procedure takes place during rail transport.
