Ziegler Group has “logistics in its blood” for 100 years

Arthur Joseph Ziegler had logistics in his blood. Born in Switzerland in 1875, the visionary started his career as a 22-year-old forwarding agent. He gained his first experiences at Schenker & Cie in Vienna, with his uncle Gottfried Schenker – the founder of the company of the same name. At that time, Vienna was the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and was one of the most important cities in the world.

But Arthur Ziegler wanted to know more: his internships abroad led him to Paris and finally to Antwerp, where he was able to perfect his sea freight skills. After several years of consulting with Schenker, he asked his uncle if he could buy the branch in Brussels. In 1908 he acquired it. Ziegler S.A. in Brussels was “born” – the beginning of a family business with a lot of passion.

Today, the Ziegler Group operates worldwide successfully with 3,200 employees and 120 branches. Under the leadership of President Alain R. Ziegler, supported by his niece and General Manager Diane Govaerts, the forwarding company generates EUR 1.2 billion in annual turnover.
