´“young.stars academy“ of DB Schenker pulls its anchor

On 2 September DB Schenker’s “young.stars academy” training initiative was launched in Schladming with more than 120 trainees from all regions of Austria. The talented young individuals received a warm welcome during the kick-off event from Kurt Leidinger, CEO of DB Schenker in Austria and South East Europe, Member of Parliament Karl Lackner, Alexander Klacska, Branch Chairman Transport and Logistics, Austrian Economic Chamber, and Martin Obermüller, Head of Human Resources at DB Schenker in Austria.
“As the leading company in the logistics sector with nearly 2,000 employees in Austria, it’s very important to us to provide training to talented young people because you, our young talents, are the future,” said Kurt Leidinger in his opening address.
This was also the reason why DB Schenker teamed up with experienced experts to launch its new “young.stars academy” training initiative in Austria. The new training format focuses on both professional qualification and, just as importantly, the further development of personal and social skills.
“Along with acquiring the practical knowledge they need, our trainees will therefore also improve their personal and social skills, which will make them true top-notch experts in the future,” Martin Obermüller explained to the press.
The new training program has a modular structure and consists of two full-day instruction units per training year. During the first year, an outdoor workshop is held in which trainees gain in-depth knowledge of their various roles in the company and receive extensive training in communication methods and proper behavior on the telephone. The second year focuses on teamwork and dealing with conflicts, while the third year of training primarily seeks to strengthen independent thinking among trainees, as well as their sense of personal responsibility for the actions they take. During the third year, trainees also develop criteria for evaluating their own personal success.
Alexander Klacska is also very pleased with the new training program. “The new training initiative at DB Schenker not only provides trainees with the technical knowledge they need; it also strengthens their social skills,” said Klacska. “This means they will be ideally educated and prepared for the working world, and will thus benefit the Austrian economy as well.”
Training program instructors are provided by the Timeout Academy – Müller & Partner KG.
