Xrail, the alliance of seven leading freight railways, heralds a pioneering change in European single wagon transport: By 2021, an international capacity booking system will be introduced for all participating partners. The improved offer provides a more sustainable solution for tackling the growing traffic in Europe.
In a panel discussion with rail freight customers, the partners of the alliance announced that the implementation with DB Cargo marks Xrail’s group-wide rollout of the Xrail Capacity Booking (XCB) initiative. Four of the partners, CFL Cargo, Lineas, RCG and SBB Cargo, have been using the system already. Fret SNCF recently joined the alliance and plans to launch XCB 2021.
The international booking system provides international schedules with ensured capacity, including scheduled time of arrival, stability and punctuality through “production by schedule”, transparency through seamless end-to-end shipment tracking, and information such as automatic notification and new ETA in case of delays.
“Through the joint Europe-wide capacity booking, the
seven Xrail partners are taking European single-wagon traffic a big step
forward,” said Roland Bosch, CEO DB Cargo.
The full rollout of XCB at DB Cargo and Green Cargo is planned for late 2020.
