Against the background of the forecast that freight traffic in Europe will increase by 30 per cent by 2030, at the InnoTrans trade fair Dr. Ing. Clemens Först gives a positive image for the development of rail logistics in Europe. “Road freight transport and inland waterway transport can not handle the volume increase on their own. As a result, rail freight transport will become more important, said the spokesman for the Board of Rail Cargo Group in a speech at the world premiere of the modular freight car innovation TransANT.
The new development in cooperation with voestalpine is a lightweight innovation with the potential for up to four tonnes of additional load per wagon. This brings a type of car into circulation that meets the needs of customers in the 21st century, emphasised Clemens Först. This is all the more important because the cargo railways would have to provide future solutions for all freight groups. In addition to building materials, mining supplies, forest products, petroleum products and chemicals, RCG now also carries energy drinks, automotive components and consumer goods, such as toilet paper.
Serial production of the freight car innovation TransANT will start shortly. The new transport technology is celebrating its premiere in regular traffic as part of a shuttle service with 21 wagons from autumn 2019 on a transport of local ore to voestalpine in Linz, which is carried out by the LogServ subsidiary CargoServ on its own.
