A positioning as airfreight gateway between technology centers in Asia and European markets seems possible

Vienna Airport shows interest in further China routes

China is becoming increasingly important for the Vienna International Airport, especially in passenger traffic. “Regarding air freight, we can certainly raise a lot of potential,” CEO Julian Jäger explained in a lecture for the Austrian Chinese Business Association (President: Prof. Dr. Georg Zanger) on 13th November.

At the moment there are direct connections from Vienna Airport for passengers and air freight to the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.  However, when talking to the OEVZ logistics magazine, Julian Jäger expressed his hope “that we can extend our network of direct connections to two or three more cities in China within the next two years”. Chengdu, Guangzhou and Xian seem to be potential candidates.

The VIE board described the recent closure of the Hong Kong route as regrettable. Vienna Airport wants to make up for this loss as quickly as possible with another airline.
