Since November 2014 Austrian Post and the Pfeiffer Handelsgruppe through its sales company Unimarkt are offering house-to-house delivery of food in Upper Austria, and all over Austria since April 2015. With their project “Food delivery all over Austria in reusable boxes“ the Post was able to convince the jury and has won the Austrian Logistics Prize in the category of “Reorganisation of the supply chain”.
Verein Netzwerk Logistik has awarded the Austrian Logistics Prize for the seventh time in the Upper Austrian Raiffeisenlandesbank Forum. The successful implementation of the project was based on the 18-months research project completed last February, “Food4all@home”. The partners Post AG, Pfeiffer Handelsgruppe, Logistikum – the logistics department of the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences in Steyr and RISC Software GmbH aimed to develop a modern last-mile-logistics concept for fast food supply throughout the country.
The partners of this project wanted to use the highly efficient standardised processes of the Austrian Post as a parcel service company, and its competencies for delivery all over Austria, also for food. “This required passive cooling of the goods, and hence the use of special, reusable transport boxes. This makes the house-to-house delivery cost-efficient, and allows to use it throughout Austria, and secure local supply in particular for persons with reduced mobility”, says DI Peter Umundum, CEO Parcel & Logistics, Austrian Post. “We intend to expand our service range regarding food distribution, and cooperate also with more partners,” Umundum is convinced about the further potential of food delivery.
