Dachser currently maintains 200 of its own air and sea freight locations with 3,900 employees in 38 countries. In Germany alone, the Air & Sea Logistics Business Field is present at 22 locations. This means VCI’s small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) members and its trade associations can find a local contact anywhere for all matters regarding their air and sea freight shipments. Overseas, the well-educated and well-trained Dachser workforce manages communications with government authorities and customs, and organizes freight dispatch and delivery.
“The chemical industry poses considerable challenges to logistics, with a plethora of exceptional legal provisions and product groups that, to some extent, are very sensitive. This also applies when our member companies tap into new purchasing and sales markets overseas,” states Sabine Knirsch, Head of VCI-Purchasing Cooperatives. “This perspective strengthened our resolve in deciding to extend the existing cooperation with Dachser to include air and sea freight.”
“Internationalization is increasing the complexity of chemical logistics. Nowadays, SMEs have to manage global supply chains too, and in the process comply with laws, regulations, and safety codes,” explains Michael Kriegel, Department Head Dachser Chem-Logistics within the Corporate Unit Corporate Solutions. “VCI corporate members find capable expert partners at Dachser who connect their European logistics seamlessly to intercontinental markets and who understand the unique requirements of the chemical industry.”
