UPS expands its offer for international wine logistics

Now wine can be shipped to private addresses and consumers in growth markets outside Europe

UPS expands its offer for international wine logistics

UPS  is expanding its ability to ship alcohol, wine and beer to consumers around the world. Using the UPS Express shipping or services, wine connoisseurs can have their favorite cases of wine shipped directly from the vineyards to their home.

According to this year’s study “VINEXPO/IWSR Global Study 2015-2020”, it can be assumed that the wine imports to China will rise by almost 80 percent from 2016 to 2020. This is part of the expected growth of nearly 13 percent for the entire Asia-Pacific region. At present, Italy, France and Spain produce around 50 percent of the world’s wine, and the growing consumption in markets outside Europe offers an opportunity for continuous growth despite falling wine consumption in Europe.

“It is important for us to ensure that our customers – whether they are consumers, small winegrowers or wine merchants – can ship their wines whenever and wherever they want, and rely on our service quality,” said Nando Cesarone, President, UPS Europe.

UPS offers a wine export service with direct mail to consumers from selected countries of the European Union to China, South Korea and Japan, as well as the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, the Philippines and Canada, Hong Kong, India, Macau, South Africa, New Zealand, Singapore As well as Taiwan, Thailand. The business-to-consumer service thus extends the business-to-business dispatch worldwide, both for palletised and non-palletised goods.

Consumers shipping within the European Union can now also use UPS’ wine delivery service, for example, to send a new favorite wine they discovered during their holidays to their homes.

For all destinations, UPS offers certified and secure packaging especially designed to transport wine bottles (up to twelve bottles per cardboard box for still wine and up to six bottles for sparkling wine) and can be ordered via the UPS service hotline.

Those who are shipping from France and Italy can also profit from the so-called “Customised Declared Value for Wine” program. With this service by UPS Capital, customers who use pre-approved packaging materials can use a bulk shipping option and claim up to EUR 500 of insurance coverage.
