On September 30th, 2019, the first CO2-neutral delivery of tulips from Amsterdam arrived in the port of Vienna. The initiators of the transport, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and thinkport VIENNA, laid the foundation for an all-electric logistics chain between the Netherlands and Austria.

The transport was based on an intermodal service from Venlo, Netherlands via Herne to WienCont terminal, including forwarding of the trailer to Münchendorf. E-trucks were used for pre-carriage and on-carriage in long-distance transport by rail.

The port of Vienna is a “steamer in the logistics area. In the last 10 years, we have invested around EUR 200 million in the expansion of the facilities and now we want to combine ecology with business,” said Kurt Gollowitzer, CEO of WienHolding.

n tonnes of goods arrive at Vienna’s port. “We intend to be a pioneer in the implementation of new logistics concepts,” added the technical director of the Port of Vienna, Doris Pulker-Rohrhofer.
