Stora Enso signs long-term agreement with the port of Lübeck

Signing a cooperation agreement with Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG), Stora Enso Logistics, a major customer from the forestry products sector, has opted for the port of Lübeck in the long term. The contract will start in 2019 and will initially be valid for five years. This will make Stora Enso the first customer to move into the newly constructed forestry product terminal at Skandinavienkai in 2019.

For Stora Enso, Lübeck is the main port of call in the Baltic Sea. For more than 40 years the group has been shipping its products via Lübeck. Almost one million tonnes of the Scandinavian paper producer passed the Nordlandkai last year. The new opportunities at Skandinavienkai will allow to handle additional cargo volume.

A main focus is on the further development of intermodal transport solutions from the production sites to the customer on the European mainland. Stora Enso already ships more than three million tonnes of cargo across the Baltic Sea each year via its own network.

At the new facility on the Skandinavienkai forestry products arriving by ship from Finland are directly loaded to trailers, which will then be put on the railway in a timely manner. In addition to efficiency and flexibility, the company strives for shorter transit times and a reduction in CO2 emissions. Already today, 53 trains per week are being launched from Lübeck, providing an ideal network for this cargo.
