Start of construction for Ikea logistics center Strebersdorf in a few weeks

Ikea Austria sets the course for the future. The focus is on proximity to the customer. Ikea Manager Viera Juzova announced the construction of a logistics facility in Vienna during a press event for the start of the catalogue.

The construction of the new Ikea logistics center Strebersdorf will start in September. At the address Scheydgasse / Vohburggasse, a two-storey logistics center will be built on an area of around 50,000 m², which is to handle all customer direct deliveries in the future. At the moment first preparatory work is taking place. The actual start of construction is scheduled for September. The opening is planned for autumn 2019.

On the one hand, this is about the so-called “last mile” in the metropolitan area of Vienna, that is, all deliveries directly to the customer’s home. On the other hand, all parcel deliveries to destinations throughout Austria will be made from Strebersdorf in the future. And there will be a pick-up point for customers, where they can pick up goods they ordered online.

At the beginning of the new financial year, Ikea Austria is also lowering its prices for services: a parcel of up to 30 kilos will be delivered for a flatrate of € 3.90. And a whole home furnishing comes for € 99,- because that is the new upper limit for deliveries with a value of goods from € 1.000, -.

With the new service prices, Ikea is taking account of developments, not only because of the growing number of online orders, but also because fewer and fewer people in the inner-city area have their own cars.
