Social partners require central road control authority

In the course of the social partner dialogue, we were able to achieve an important agreement on the issue of road inspection. Together with the cargo transport group of the Austrian Economic Chamber, we – vida syndicate – require a central control authority with qualified officials controlling all violations but also doing explanatory work“, Karl Delfs, Secretary of the road division of vida, said on the occasion of a three-days symposium in Rust.
So far, different authorities have been in charge regarding violations in road traffic. However, they are not networked, which leads to major problems. These isolated controls do not allow working together on findings, or use the data efficiently.
Thus the social partners require a control authority with a right to intervene, and which can penalize according to fiscal, social and trade law as well as traffic control violations. Officials especially trained for this authority shall carry out the inspections.  However, the control authority shall also – before penalties are imposed – advise and do educational work with entrepreneurs and drivers. This full service provider could also be operating across Europe in a next step, the social partners recommend.
