SBB Cargo International has founded its wholly-owned subsidiary SBB Cargo Nederland B.V.. Starting with the 2019/2020 timetable change, the rail freight operator will produce all of the initial services by themselves. They run subsidiaries in Germany and Italy.
SBB Cargo International expects the cross-border implementation and planning of trains on the complete Netherlands-Italy corridor to improve quality. While the company will depend less on third parties, they will continue cooperate with long-standing partners such as shunting service providers in the future, they emphasise in a press release.
Freek Hilkemeijer is the new Managing Director of SBB Cargo Nederland B.V. He has 20 years of rail experience, worked until 2013 as Manager Operation and Manager Quality, Safety & Environment at HTRS Nederland and has managed his own consulting firm since 2014, Rail Competence B.V.
On the basis of proven and professional recruitment, the Dutch subsidiary will be able to recruit its own locomotive drivers locally. Initially, interoperable train drivers will be deployed by SBB Cargo Germany. From 1 January 2020, the new company will be based at Albert Plesmanweg 107B, Rotterdam.
