Waberer’s International Nyrt., Budapest, has appointed Robert Ziegler as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective from 1 February 2019. He will succeed Ferenc Lajkó, whose resignation is effective immediately, but who will continue to provide his expertise and advice during the next six months.
Robert Ziegler joins from DHL Freight where he served as Chief Operations Officer from 2015. Later on he became Chief Executive Officer, responsible for UK and Benelux where he succesfully turned around the loss-making UK business unit.
Prior to joining DHL Freight, Robert Ziegler spent 17 years at AT Kearney as a management consultant. During this tenure, he was involved in several transportation and logistics projects, and later became the Head of AT Kearney’s travel, transportation and infrastructure practice. He also founded AT Kearney’s Middle-East Office in Dubai where he spent five years.
Robert Ziegler says: “I am honored to lead Waberer’s during its next phase of development and excited by the prospect of continuing the transformation of the company’s operating model to increase efficiency, optimize the network, and drive further digitalization. I am also looking forward to growing the business profitably and delivering value to customers and shareholders.”
Ferenc Lajkó, who led the company through a period of stabilisation from August 2016, adds: “I am proud of the 18 years spent at Waberer’s and the transformation that the company went through under my leadership. I have decided it is now time to look for new challenges.”
Waberer’s is a leading private-owned vehicle operator in international full truckload (FTL) transportation in Europe. Their operations include long-haul international transport of standard pallet goods, domestic transport, storage and distribution of dry and refrigerated goods, as well as international brokerage. The fleet of over 4300 truck-trailers, of an average age of approximately two years, completed 485 million kilometres on European roads in 2017. The company’s domestic logistics warehouse capacity in Hungary exceeds 200,000 m².
