Reformed funding for rail cargo transport

Just-published study offers recommendations for more efficient support of rail cargo transport in Austria

Reformed funding for rail cargo transport

Cargo transport in Austria shall see a stronger shift from road to rail. The target figure is 40 percent of the total volume.

In order to achieve this target, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (bmvit) is reorganising the annual funding at the amount of EUR 100 million. The reformation is based on a study that analysed the current regulation and gives recommendations for more efficient funding. The results of the study will be presented publicly on 11 May.

In a press talk, Gerald Klug, Minister of Infrastructure, traffic expert Walter Brenner and Wolfgang Niessner, CEO Gebrüder Weiss, will present the results of the study as well as the cornerstones of the reformation of the funding.
