RCO launching new rail link between Hungary and the Netherlands

Rail Cargo Operator’s direct service connects Budapest and Rotterdam by two weekly round trips

RCO launching new rail link between Hungary and the Netherlands

The network of Rail Cargo Operator Austria GmbH is growing fast: In the 40th calendar week, a new rail product between Hungary and the Netherlands will be launched, offering two round trips per week.

The short sea services to the United Kingdom and Portugal v.v. make the port of Rotterdam a major hub for both, imports and exports. The link to Hungary expands the existing services of Rail Cargo Operator Austria GmbH from Rotterdam to Wolfurt, Vienna and Linz. This direct connection reduces the lead time from Budapest to Rotterdam and offers an alternative for tankers and trailers, as well as for the transport of containers.

In Rotterdam, the trains are handled at the Botlek terminal, which is operated by Bertschi B.V. and offers expertise in the transport of goods for the chemical industry. In Budapest, the train calls the bimodal terminal BILK, which offers transshipment facilities for road and rail. From there a lot of connections lead to the east, for example to Turkey and Romania.

Mag. Christopher Müller, Managing Director of Rail Cargo Operator – Austria GmbH, emphasises that “the fastest transit time by rail from Turkey to Rotterdam and the UK, can thus be provided via the Budapest hub”.
