Sometimes ecological and sustainable solutions can be very close together: Instead of purchasing a brand-new e-transporter, a diesel-powered 7.5-tonner can be converted to an electric one. In addition to the more environmentally friendly electric drive, this saves considerable CO2 emissions, which inevitably result from the production of a brand-new vehicle.
Logwin Solutions Austria, together with its innovation partners, received an award for this idea, implementation planning and successful day-to-day testing at the Ecomanagement Day of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce. Economic Councillor Petra Bohuslav and the President of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce Sonja Zwazl presented the certificate.
Logwin has been using the converted vehicle for a field test in city logistics for Vienna since September 2019. The experience of the practical test has so far been positive without any exceptions and with the kilometres driven it has even exceeded expectations by far. Its practical suitability also results from the fact that the conversion was designed and carried out weight-neutrally, so there is no loss of the maximum payload.
In most cases, retrofitting an existing machine is more sustainable and conserves resources than buying a new one, and this also applies to commercial vehicles. Because the simple conversion of a diesel truck into an electric truck does not mean that the existing diesel transporter has to be written off economically, nor does the production of a new vehicle also mean that new CO2 emissions have to be ordered from the vehicle manufacturer.
