As part of their three-year apprenticeship, the adolescents will be trained in the delivery and distribution facilities. They learn about the entire process chain of programs, with a focus on processes of the last mile, know and receive also personality training. The first working day was spent by the 24 apprentices at the Post headquarters, where they were personally welcomed by DI Peter Umundum, Member of the Board of Management for Parcel & Logistics.

“The demands on the profession have increased massively in recent years, at the same time we see ourselves – as many industries – faced with a shortage of skilled workers. That motivated us to invent our own apprenticeship. We want to promote young talents, provide them with comprehensive training from an early age and train them to become specialists,” says Peter Umundum.

In April of this year, Post received the Hermes Transport Logistics Award in the Education category for the creation of the new apprenticeship, which is awarded by the WKO in recognition of outstanding achievements in the Austrian transport and logistics industry.

In addition to the teaching profession of local and distribution logistics, Post is starting with two additional apprenticeships with IT system technology and application development coding, thus further expanding its training program. Since 2011, an apprenticeship as a retail sales assistant has been available, and since last autumn junior staff have been trained as e-commerce merchants / e-commerce merchants and as office clerks.
