Port of Vienna to invest EUR 3 million into a 240 tonnes mobile crane

Powerful crane for universal use and a lifting capacity of 84 tonnes strengthens the trimodal handling capacity at the Freudenau location

Port of Vienna to invest EUR 3 million into a 240 tonnes mobile crane

The port of Vienna, a company of the Wien Holding, is adding new technical equipment: In the Freudenau port the new mobile port crane started officially operating, in the presence of Gerhard Kubik, Municipial Council and Member of the Parliament, Peter Hanke, Head of Wien Holding, and the two directors of the port Karin Zipperer and Fritz Lehr.
The crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 84 tonnes and allows handling bulk cargo, general cargo and containers twice as fast as previously. The new crane means a further strengthening of the trimodality of the port of Vienna, as goods can be handled via road, rail or ship in any combination there.
The crane has a maximum lifting height of 48 meters and a total height of 55 meters. The undercarriage has a length of 16.2 meters. During operation the crane is 12.3 meters wide.
For container handling the crane is equipped with different spreaders which can perform up to 35 cycles per hour. For optimal coordination of the individual workflows, a setup area for the crane was built on the quay. This area has a railway and road connection and includes a modern electrical infrastructure for the supply of the handling systems and cargo vessels.
The new crane has also state-of-the-art environmental technology. A revolutionary drive system can store energy when the cargo is lowered. This energy is then fed into the drive system for the next lift, allowing to reduce fuel consumption, noise and CO2 emissions by about 30 per cent.
