In 2019, the tonnage transported between Hamburg and Austria has almost doubled compared to the previous year. This record is not only resulting from the increase in the container segment, but also from moving some of the raw material imports of voestalpine Stahl GmbH from the port of Rotterdam to Hamburg. In total, approximately 4.1 million tonnes of goods were transported between Austria and Hamburg in 2019.

In 2019, 1.1 million tonnes of raw materials were transported from Hamburg to the voestalpine plant in Linz. In total, 16 voestalpine trains per week run between Hamburg and Linz for imports. In addition, two trains run from Linz to Hamburg for exports. The North German seaport convinces voestalpine with its railway expertise, technical know-how and the desire for a successful partnership.

voestalpine’s volumes are handled at the Hansaport bulk goods terminal, with its own station including 15 tracks for handling block train transports. In 2019, Hansaport handled approximately 15 million tonnes of goods. The business for voestalpine is about 6.5 percent of the total volume.

“We are pleased to welcome voestalpine as a customer at Hansaport. Our fully automated handling facility and our motivated and customer-oriented team, enabled us to prove in recent months that our more than 40 years of experience in handling bulk goods are a guarantee of high quality to our customers,” says Ben David Thurnwald, Managing Director of Hansaport.
