“The Czech Republic is one of the most important markets in Central Europe for the port of Hamburg and we are pleased that the Port of Hamburg is the gateway to the world for the Czech economy. This is also illustrated by the growth in container traffic, which rose by around 8.6 per cent last year and continues to develop positively this year,” said Vladimír Doboš, head of the Port of Hamburg Marketing representative office in Prague, on the occasion of the annual harbor evening.
Ingo Egloff, Managing Director Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. (HHM), emphasized in his welcome to the more than 250 guests, that more than 90 per cent of the import and export containers to and from Hamburg are environmentally friendly transported by rail. “The 120 weekly container train connections between transshipment terminals in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the container terminals in the Port of Hamburg, which are offered to many loading points, in particular by the operator Metrans, illustrate the high performance of our seaport hinterland traffic.
The Port of Hamburg has established itself in the Czech market as the leading seaport. The shippers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia benefit from the high number of train connections and the reliability of the traffic. In addition, transit goods are forwarded via the Czech Republic to Austria and Hungary.
On the occasion of the annual harbor evening, the port representation of Hamburg had invited representatives from business, associations, organizations and members of HHM to the premises of the Municipal House in Prague. The agency, which has been active in Prague for 29 years, is the host of the traditional event and, with its diverse activities in the market, ensures that the contacts with the Czech and Slovak business community are systematically expanded and well maintained.
