Following the invitation of Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V., a delegation of the Austrian federal railways ÖBB and Rail Cargo Austria, a subsidiary of ÖBB, traveled to Hamburg on 12 July. The high-level delegation was headed by ÖBB Director General Andreas Matthä.

To get an overview of the operations in the Port of Hamburg, the excursion started with a port tour, moderated by Axel Mattern, CEO of Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. Many ships of the ULCS class (Ultra Large Container Ships) were on site at the time. A special highlight was the encounter with the 20,119 TEU ship Cosco Sagittarius.

After the tour, Harald Kreft, Head of the Port Railway, Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), presented the port’s performance and planned innovations as well as current and future projects. This was followed by a tour of the Altenwerder Container Terminal. The delegation was fascinated by the innovative strength of the Port of Hamburg, a regular exchange of all participants was agreed.

The Rail Cargo Group realises logistics solutions for block train, single wagon traffic, wagon groups or intermodal transports. The service portfolio includes door-to-door transport, load securing, packaging, customs clearance, transshipment, storage and transport monitoring.

Moreover, ÖBB Güterverkehr connects European conurbations with ports. The focus is on the operational handling of block trains on many routes, including the connections to / from Hamburg and Bremerhaven.
