New weighing system for containers at TSA’s Wolfurt terminal

All major Terminal Service Austria-locations now provide the conditions for implementing the SOLAS guidelines

New weighing system for containers at TSA’s Wolfurt terminal

Since early September, Terminal Service Austria (TSA) in cooperation with its longstanding partner Cargotec/Kalmar offer a new weighing system on a mobile container stacker at the Wolfurt terminal. This allows to determine the total gross weight in accordance with the SOLAS regulations (Safety of Life at Sea) without requiring additional manipulation of the container, but by a calibrated weighing machine directly on the machine.

Different measuring sensors determine the current load status of the machine and by a measurement unit the verified gross weight of the container can be determined. The output is now displayed on a weighing note, and in a later expansion stage directly through the terminal management system. The unique feature of this method is the determination of weight during the lift, which means no time is lost for weighing.

The TSA terminals in Wels and Villach both have calibrated road weighbridges, so SOLAS weighing can be carried out there as well. Also the Wien-Süd cargo center will offer the new weighing service from the start of operation in December 2016.
