Honold LTS Logistik GmbH and aerospace supplier Premium Aerotec inaugurated their new Materials Management Center (MMC) at the Augsburg Haunstetten site on 29 January. The logistics facility is both, a digitally controlled material warehouse, and a hub for all deliveries to and from the four works of the Tier 1 supplier to the aerospace industry.
The MMC for Premium Aerotec includes one of the most powerful automatic small parts warehouses in Europe. The storage system provides about 180,000 storage spaces. A 50 per cent joint venture between the Honold Logistik Group and LTS Nordwest was established for its operation. The aim of this cooperation is to bundle local capability of the company, technological know-how and existing knowledge for their joint customer Premium Aerotec.
“With the new Materials Management Center in Augsburg, Honold LTS Logistik ensures a smooth goods flow for us,” says Uli Amersdorffer, Premium Aerotec’s site manager Augsburg. “About five million components per year will pass the MMC in Augsburg towards our customers and our plants in Nordenham, Varel, Bremen and Brasov in Romania. Thanks to modern digital solutions, we have a complete overview of material movements and stocks at any time.”
Thanks to the introduction of the SAP EWM module – in addition to the existing SAP system – the new MMC has the most modern warehouse management system which is fully integrated in the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. Storage and retrieval is using direct data connection with the Premium AEROTEC production lines. Mobile data terminals, digitally controlled material handling equipment, QR-coded parts and storage locations ensure a transparent, data-controlled flow of goods.
“With the MMC, we have created a transshipment center for approximately 1,000 deliveries and 2,000 shipping orders per day for our customer Premium Aerotec in cooperation with LTS Nordwest on a total of 17,400 m²,” says Heiner-Matthias Honold, Managing Director of Honold Logistik Gruppe GmbH & Co. KG.”We provide Premium Aerotec’s production in Augsburg with 15,000 retrieval positions every day.”
Premium Aerotec is a global player in the aerospace industry, generating revenues of EUR 2 billion in 2018. Its core business is the development and production of aircraft structures made of metal and carbon fiber composites. The company has locations in Augsburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Nordenham and Varel in Germany as well as in Rumania in Braşov. Premium Aerotec employs a total of around 10,000 people.
