The Belgian VGP Group has built the logistics center for more than EUR 20 million in the Soltau-Ost III area, with direct access to the motorway. Schnellecke Logistics invested a further EUR 5.5 million. The complex comprises a 45,000 m² hall with a 1,700 m² office area. The export center has started operating with 90 employees. In full operation, more than 300 jobs shall be created there.
“This packaging center will set standards,” said Dr. Michael Hauf, Head of Audi Brand Logistics, at the opening ceremony of the logistics center. Technological innovations will be used there, from the driverless stackers to robot-controlled packaging mechanisms. After all, logistics, which was no longer a case of pushing boxes, but comprised sophisticated technical jobs.
The Audi logistics center for overseas exports is a so-called CKD (Completely Knocked Down) warehouse. In Soltau the parts of Audi suppliers are assembled, which are sent via containers via the northern German seaports, especially to China, but also to Mexico, Brazil and India.
