Effective 11 December 2016, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG offers extended services for cargo transport. The start of operation of the new Güterzentrum Wien Süd in Inzersdorf, which is part of the investment program of the Ministry of Transport, is an important milestone for cargo transport by rail and a powerful site to succeed the previous intermodal terminal at Vienna’s Nordwestbahnhof.
Located at the intersection of three major rail corridors and connected to the trunk road network, the Güterzentrum Wien Süd connects the major economic regions in Europe and overseas. Goods can be efficiently loaded on the environmentally friendly railway there, and be forwarded to their destinations. The cargo center and in particular its powerful terminal for intermodal transport offer best conditions for efficient transport chains between rail and road.
“The throughput capacity of the Güterzentrum Wien Süd enables clients to optimise transport times, establish cost-effective transport connections and thus develop new markets. Hence this modern cargo transport facility is an investment in the transport mobility of future generations”, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG underlines in its invitation to the grand opening celebration, for which Mag. Jörg Leichtfried, the Austrian Transport Minister, Dr. Michael Häupl, Mayor of Vienna, and Mag. Karl Wilfing, Transport Councillor of Lower Austria are expected in addition to many other prominent guests.
