The Careye Safety Angle project submitted by AVI Systems and its research partner Software Competence Center Hagenberg is one of three submissions, which were nominated for the Austrian Mobility Award 2019 in the “design safe mobility. minimise risks.” category. Based on deep learning technology, the intelligent truck turn-off assistant detects pedestrians and cyclists in potential danger zones in the blind spot. The driver is warned acoustically and optically in real time.
“One of the key tasks in this project was the adaptation of current deep learning methods for the use of object and person recognition and semantic scene recognition,” Priv.-Doz. Dr. Bernhard A. Moser from the Software Competence Center Hagenberg, explains the challenges. Another research project is in the pipeline: “In the next step, we want to predict movement behavior,” says Bernhard Moser.
