The outpatient care service for home is an extension of the existing logistics program of brands for direct delivery to patients. The extended range of services now includes: storage of medicines, direct delivery to patients, biological sampling, a central pharmacy and the home-based outpatient care service.

The new service has been developed in compliance with all regulations and guidelines applicable to international clinical trials. These regulations include: HIPAA and other relevant data protection laws in different countries, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the validation of computer systems.

For this, new operating software was developed as well as a new set of standard operating instructions coupled with strict training requirements. The new operating software will reduce the documentation of study visits to paper, enable secure transmission of documents in real time and improve project oversight.

The new home-based home care service can be integrated with other brand services, such as: storage of medicines in its depot network, use of its central pharmacy services and coordination with its worldwide courier services. By customising and integrating these services, better quality and lower cost study-specific solutions can be developed.

Wes Wheeler, CEO of Marken: “Decentralised clinical trials are becoming increasingly popular and we are making sure that we can meet the needs of our customers as they transform into their industry. We see our home-based home care service network as an important new service that can improve patient recruitment and retention and as a more integrated solution.”

As a wholly owned subsidiary of UPS, Marken is the only company dedicated to delivering patient-centric supply chains to the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. The GMP-compliant network of depots and logistics centers covers 51 locations around the world. Each month, more than 1,000 brand employees serve 80,000 drug supplies and biological supplies across all temperature ranges in over 150 countries.

Other services, such as the production of biological kits, provision of ancillary material, storage and distribution, verification of transport routes and GDP, regulatory and compliance advice complete the unique position of brands in the pharmaceutical and logistics industries.
