At the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, a new project to reduce the environmental impact has been launched last week. Two emission-free and silent electric trucks are now being used as an internal logistics shuttle. The trucks commute environmentally friendly between the new car body building outside the factory premises, and the paint shop on the factory premises.
The 18-tonne tractors were developed in cooperation with transport service provider Temmel, conveyor technology company BT-Anlagenbau and commercial vehicle manufacturer Framo. Charging of the battery happens automatically during loading and unloading of the car bodies at the dock of the halls.
“Sustainability starts with logistics. With this innovative transport system and the first e-trucks, we are among the pioneers in Austria,” Wolfgang Zitz, Vice-President Contract Manufacturing at Magna Steyr was cited by the newspaper Kleine Zeitung.
