voestalpine Stahl GmbH has developed a new outbound logistics concept together with Logistik Service GmbH (LogServ) and was awarded the “klima.aktiv mobil” seal.

The solution, which has been implemented by autumn 2018, is based on combined transport. It was implemented in collaboration with PSA Trnava (Peugeot Suciété Anonyme) and saves a significant amount of CO2. Delivery to the customer in Slovakia has been largely shifted from truck to barge.

Before this shift, 2,000 trucks covered a distance of around 315 kilometers (Linz – PSA Trnava). Since the new logistics concept has been implemente, 80 per cent of the shipments have been delivered by inland waterway to the port of Bratislava and only the last mile was covered by truck. This means that around 1,600 lorry journeys can be saved; one inland barge is sufficient to supply the customer PSA.

Since this measure brings a positive environmental effect, the concept was awarded with the “klima: aktiv mobil” seal. The Ministry of Sustainability and the Chamber of Commerce WKO give this award to motivate companies to sustainably adapt their mobility management and to reduce CO2 emissions.
