Launch of the new intermodal service Istanbul-Vienna

A special safety system by Turkrail Operator protects the shipments from transport damage

Launch of the new intermodal service Istanbul-Vienna

Turkrail Operator, founded by Turkish private investors, is launching a weekly service on the Istanbul-Vienna-Istanbul route, and plans to expand its portfolio soon, according to CEO Habip Sen. The first block train arrived on 18 June at the WienCont terminal. Thus another fast and safe link to an important economic metropolis is available to customers in the port of Vienna.

The Turkrail block train leaves Istanbul Halkali every Friday at 8 pm, with planned arrival at the WienCont terminal in Freudenau port on Tuesday at 7 am. The export train leaves Vienna every Thursday at 5 pm and is expected at the Halkali terminal in Istanbul on Sunday at 7 am.

The private Turkish railway operator is using the WienCont terminal in the port of Freudenau as a hub to forward incoming shipments from Istanbul to destinations in Central Europe, Germany, BeNeLux and the major European seaports. This system is also applied for the Istanbul area. The average transit time from Istanbul to the European industrial centers and to the northern ports is 5 days.
