Kombiverkehr KG, the European market leader in intermodal rail transport, is strengthening its network by adding a new north-south connection. On May 6, 2019, the recently inaugurated terminal in Kreuztal, in the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein, will have the announced direct train connection to and from Verona in northern Italy.

At the same time, in close cooperation with Mercitalia Intermodal, the company is also linking the Kornwestheim terminal to Italy with the multi-group train. The finish and launch terminal in Verona is Quadrante Europa. With this new offer, the Frankfurt-based company is increasing its service offer from and to Italy via the Brenner Pass to a total of 148 train departures per week.

The new service is offered on the market as an open train product to all customers and interested parties of the operator and can therefore be used by every logistics company. Some of the capacity on the train to and from Kreuztal are assigned to a freight forwarder with a focus on Italy.

“In order to provide a customer-friendly offer, we have made every effort to realise the desired timetable of the future users as far as possible,” explains Managing Director Robert Breuhahn. Due to the currently high occupancy of both, the Verona Quadrante Europa terminal and the Italian routes, this was not an easy task, but eventually they were successful: “On almost all days of departure, late closing and early provision increase the attractiveness of our new offer.”

At all dispatch terminals – both in Kreuztal and Kornwestheim as well as in Verona – freight forwarders and logistics companies can ship their load units on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Semitrailers can not be accepted for transport on the Kornwestheim – Verona route v.v.

The duration of the new train (38 hours) gives freight forwarders and transporters the possibility of fast and environmentally friendly transport of goods and goods between the economic centres in South Westphalia and the metropolitan region of Stuttgart and Verona in Veneto. In addition to conventional goods, dangerous goods are also accepted. Excluded are only the substances of classes 1 and 7 as well as the substances of the “red list” of Mercitalia Rail.

“The Kreuztal terminal is the only location at the southern end of the Rhine-Ruhr area that can be approached without using the Rhine line with the loading unit profile P400. Around the clock, seven days a week, up to 45,000 load units per year can be handled”, emphasises Armin Riedl, managing director.
