Kapeller forwarding assumes new airfreight tasks

Innsbruck Airport charges the long-established Tyrolean forwarding company with cargo and air cargo handling operations

Kapeller forwarding assumes new airfreight tasks

As of 1 July 2016, Innsbruck Airport transfers previously own-operated cargo and air cargo handling tasks to Kapeller Internationale Spedition GmbH.”The spin-off means a significant cost reduction for us, in the persistently difficult situation air freight business is facing,” said Marco Pernetta, Managing Director of the airport. Also in this new constellation, cargo handling will be carried out at the current premises at the airport.
In recent years airfreight business has fallen short of expectations, since certain forwarding companies had to have handled their shipments by the respective groups’ hubs. Therefore the former subsidiary ILUG – Innsbruck Luftfahrtumschlaggesellschaft m.b.H.was merged in January 2013 with the Tyrolean airport operator and managed as separate cargo department, informs Innsbruck Airport in a press release.
The Tyrolean forwarding company Kapeller was established in 1958 and is by 100 percent privatley owned since three generations. “We see ourselves as a neutral partner for the shipping industry as well as for airlines, forwarding partners and colleagues,” says CEO Gerhard Kapeller. In addition to pure transport services, the company’s portfolio covers also moves, fair and event logistics, special transport or storage.
